On Wednesday 11th November, after a short leave of absence (due to the school production) Drama Club made a triumphant comeback to the Lecture Theatre. Mrs McKenna and Mrs Lowry saw the return of many familiar faces and were delighted to welcome new members from the Junior School to Wellington’s most dynamic and lively after-school club!
The pace, as always, was somewhat frenetic with warm-up games and ice-breakers ensuring everyone had an opportunity to showcase their particular skills. New and established members were soon bonding over freeze-frame and tableau exercises, demonstrating that Drama Club really is the place not only to learn new skills, but to make new friends as well! This year many senior students including Sian Armstrong, Emma Cairns, Erin Patterson and Erin Cook have volunteered to supervise Drama Club (attention all Year 13/14 – a fantastic way to enhance your UCAS personal statement!) so expect lots of innovative ways to improve your drama skills from these enthusiastic students.
Next it was it was down to some serious discussion regarding Drama Club’s agenda for 2015/16. Following the success of the Mac Theatre 25th celebrations, Drama Club are hoping to perform a short production for the Spring Concert 2016. Once again our members will contribute to the script writing and stage crafting of the performance. Already many members are discussing the content of the production, but for now it remains ‘Top Secret’!
The summer term will see the return of the Annual Drama Competition, an opportunity for all our members to showcase their talents individually and as part of a group. Last year included some unforgettable performances from Rebecca Dunville, Shane Ferris and Bailey Camack.
The overall winner Jessica Burns produced an absolute show-stopper with her rendition of ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’. New talent such as Serena Smart and Abbi Turner demonstrated how the future success of Drama Club is guaranteed as the girls demonstrated their significant skills in musical performance with numbers from Aladdin and Pinocchio.
