In the first term, the College was privileged to host two students from the US who were on placement as part of the IFSA Butler Partnership programme with Stranmillis College.

The students were Katherine Paige–Freeman from the University of Virginia and Sara Krusekopf from Austin College Texas.

Over the 10 weeks of their placements in the English and Maths departments respectively, Katherine and Sara participated in a programme of observation and guided teaching. They enjoyed becoming familiar with our curriculum and teaching methods and also had the opportunity to impart their own expertise as trainee teachers to our pupils.

Stranmillis recently hosted a celebratory lunch to welcome a delegation from the US colleges involved and to thank the local teachers and Heads of Departments involved in the programme.

Mrs Cairnduff (Acting Head of Maths) and Mrs Turley (joint Head of English) represented WCB at the lunch at Stranmillis College where they discussed the mutual benefits of having American students in local schools. The US delegation and Stranmillis College also expressed their gratitude to Wellington for our warm welcome to the American students.
