Thursday evening saw one of Northern Ireland’s most up-and-coming business talents, 21 year old Matthew Large, recognised as Enterprise NI Young Entrepreneur Of The Year for his development of event check-in and guest analysis software, glistrr, which has processed its 300,000th guest this month.
Having experienced his first taste of business aged just 14, the former Wellington College pupil has always had a drive for business, involving himself with a number of enterprising projects in school. Matthew led ‘The Enterprize’ project in his school in 2010, generating an income of £2,500 for charity, which affirmed his desire to move full time into the world of entrepreneurship.
Whilst a student of Maths & Computer Science at Queens University, Matthew set up glistrr in August 2012 with advice and guidance from Inspire Business Centre through Enterprise NI’s Business Bootcamp Programme. glistrr was formed initially to increase his income through his studies and in response to the disorganisation many event organisers experience in access, egress and management of patrons. He soon developed an aim of creating the complete event check-in and guest analysis platform, merging platforms for guest management, ticketing, table reservations and competitions, each bound with social marketing. glistrr has now become the premier software for the nightlife sector across Northern Ireland, with export growth into the mainland UK, ROI and USA occurring this year.
Matthew’s achievements to date are eclipsed by the acclaimed award received at Thursday evening’s presentation at the Hilton Hotel, Belfast. Upon receipt of the award Matthew expressed his delight at winning such an esteemed title exclaiming how, “even to be nominated was wonderful in itself, but to win the award with so many other worthy nominees here is a fantastic feeling. It gives me great confidence that I’m on the right path.”
Matthew’s story hopes to inspire other young entrepreneurs to follow their aspirations and take their ideas to the next level. glistrr is working proof of what can be achieved from the young business minds of today. We look forward to following his success in the future.
