In January a team of 5 year 10 pupils took part in a STEM event at The Hive Tech Academy in PwC Belfast. The 4 day event required pupils to come up with a solution to a problem in the theme an “internet of things”. Pupils used problem solving techniques to create their design solution 'A smart shower' as they found it took ages for their shower to heat up in the morning and their parents complained about the length of time they spent in the shower.

Using digital media, VR and AR technology the team designed a more economical show that fits the user's needs. Throughout the event the team took part in workshops on digital media, marketing and entrepreneurial skills to finalise their idea.

On Friday the team presented their concept to a team of Dragons which included local entrepreneurs and staff from CCEA. The team received some excellent feedback from the judges on their presentation skills and internet of things solution. Overall the team had a brilliant time at the event which has encouraged them to pursue STEM subjects at GCSE.
