On Thursday 19th April 2012, Wellington College hosted eleven pupils and their teacher, Ms Eva Zetterberg Pettersson from the Swedish school, Ullvigymnasiet. The visit was part of the students’ induction process as they study for the Swedish equivalent of A-Levels. The students met first with Vice Principal, Dr Drysdale and were then given a tour of the College by Dr Agnew. This included witnessing a performance of ‘Thank You For The Music’, by Mrs Hodgins with her Year 9 music class and a science experiment by Mr Cardwell. They were also able to view the work within the Art Department and see some of the video productions being prepared within Media Studies.

Following the tour, the Swedish pupils then presented three talks to a selection of WCB sixth form pupils. The Swedes spoke on Swedish music, Swedish technology (including Spotify) and then on youth culture in their homeland. After each talk, our pupils asked questions and it quickly showed that teenagers everywhere have very similar interests. The visit was a good opportunity for the Swedish students to have a brief glimpse of Northern Ireland educations and all the pupils involved enjoyed the experience.
