2017 marks the 80th and 60th anniversaries of the prestigious children’s book awards the CILIP Carnegie Medal and  the CILIP Kate Greenaway. Wellington College Belfast will be involved in the celebrations. Their School Librarian, Miss Tanja Jennings, will be representing Northern Ireland on the judging panel of 12 library professionals for a 2nd year. This requires reading all the nominees (114 for Carnegie and 92 for Greenaway- the most nominations ever in the history of the awards) in accordance with criteria before deliberating on a long list followed by a shortlist.

There is a dedicated display in WCB Library showcasing all the books. Students can vote on what they would like Miss Jennings to read next. They will also have the chance to discuss, adopt a book, blog about and borrow their favourites at the Carnegie Club which will be held each Thursday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. The CKG winners will be announced in June at a special ceremony in London.
