The ultimate reading celebration- the 11th anniversary NI Heat of the global Kids’ Lit Quiz was held in the college on Tuesday the 29th of November. There was good representation from schools across the province with 23 teams competing in total. Enjoying the festive atmosphere were Wellington’s Year 8 team Rose Lawder, Zachary Murray, Joshua Smith and Aine Trainor who finished in 5th place with a score of 79 points. They also won a round and were awarded with books. The Year 9 team Laoise Corrigan, Owen Devlin, Ben Gribbon and Angel Tuff also demonstrated their knowledge of books.
Other schools embraced the Best Dressed competition. Fictional characters included the Scottish Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, Gangsta Granny, a steam punk version of Charlie Bucket, Geek Girl and Liesel Meminger (aka the Book Thief) to name a few. The top mascot prize went to Sullivan Upper Preparatory for a wonderful origami Robin. Special guest authors David Gatward and Christine Hamill joined in the fun judging the Best posters, fancy dress and school mascots.
Friends’ School Lisburn took the top prize and went on to compete in the National Final. New entrant Banbridge Academy and Sullivan Upper came 2nd and 3rd.
