On 12th October Wellington College were the proud hosts of Sports Academy George of South Africa. The Sports Academy was developed as a direct response to address the fundamental need to develop strong leaders and positive role models in the underprivileged communities in George, South Africa. The Sports Academy works in five of the disadvantaged areas of George, coaching and mentoring young people. It aims to have a long-term impact; therefore it is a five year programme whereby the students enter the Sports Academy in their first year of High School. The tour is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the young soccer players.
As part of the visit the College’s U16 Football team played a match against Sports Academy George which the visitors went on to win 5 – 3 in a well played friendly match.
