On Wednesday 13th November Marc Thompson, Adam Callender and Jack Taylor from Year 12 set off for Queens University in Belfast as the Wellington contingent to take part in the Geographical Association World Wise Quiz, held in the Geography department at Queens.
Having won the competition last year, there was a great air of expectation coupled with a healthy feeling of nerves, as they travelled to Queens to attempt to retain their title. One of the teachers from an opposing team commented on how the boys entered the room looking determined to retain their title; the teacher also noted how they presented the cup to the crowd as they walked to their seats- perhaps a tactical move!
The three pupils did exceptionally well in the preliminary rounds of the quiz, fighting off fierce competition from nine other schools and making it into the final three. After a stern battle of intellect between the boys and the rival teams, Wellington finished runners up in the competition, handing the title over to the boys at Belfast Inst.
Marc, Jack and Adam did exceptionally well in the quiz, and should be incredibly proud of their achievement of gaining second place - an accolade in itself. The boys were fantastic ambassadors for the college as they mingled with other students and teachers, engaging in conversation over a can of coke and some sweets during the interlude. Well done boys!
