On Friday 10th February 2023, as part of our series of invitations to our local South Belfast MLAs, Wellington College hosted Matthew O’Toole MLA from the SDLP to present a talk for our Year 14 pupils and undertake a Question & Answer session. Mr O’Toole spoke about his upbringing in Northern Ireland and his working life in England and beyond.

The Question & Answer session saw an informed discussion between Mr O’Toole and our pupils on issues including Irish unity, Brexit, education, and the cost-of-living crisis. There were also lighter moments as Matthew revealed that his favourite band was Pink Floyd and that he had been mistaken for Prince Harry. Our Year 14 students found the talk extremely engaging and we would thank Matthew for coming into Wellington College.
